LECTIO DIVINA POETRY

for Soul Rest

Savor a Poem with Lectio Divina

a practice in divine reading

The following original poems (listed below) can be enjoyed on their own or used as a gentle guide into your contemplative practice of Centering Prayer. Sit comfortably and read through the poem slowly several times. Then, choose a word to serve as your “prayer anchor.” Breathe, becoming aware of being in your physical body. Try to let go of any thoughts, allowing your thinking mind to stop all its hard work and rest. Every time your mind wanders, recall your word to re-anchor yourself. Practice fully inhabiting the present moment with acceptance and surrender. Over time, notice how you are more embodied and and present in your daily life.

POET, THEOLOGIAN, FARMER

“Of the little words that come out of the silence, like prayers prayed back to the one who prays, make a poem that does not disturb the silence from which it came.”

—Wendell Berry
