A Practice in Listening to the Inner Voice of Love

"The Lord saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, 'I will blot out from the earth the human beings I have created—people together with animals and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.' But Noah found favor in the sight of the Lord."

—Genesis 6:5-8

Beloved,

I will never regret giving you life and I will never withdraw my Spirit from you. No, I delight in knowing you. Even when you have been ruled by your own brokenness, I haven’t turned away. When I grieve, it is my Spirit feeling the pain of what you are experiencing. It is my heart extending towards you, not retracting.

Don’t ever think I am displeased with you. I may call you to repentance, but you can’t do anything to displace my love from your being and body. I am deeply, irrevocably committed and interconnected to you.

Rather than blotting out creation, I am bringing all of creation into my wholeness. My wholeness is at the core of everything. Like a seed I am nurturing my shalom (wholeness, wellbeing, peace) to full growth—in you, all humankind, animals, the earth, and cosmos.

Beloved, I am not sorry I made you or any of my creation. How could I be, when I am joining all of creation in union with me?

—Love
