Dialoguing Prayers
Prayer of a Stroke Patient
I have forgotten how to pray
My sacred texts.
The ones that sustained me
Through childhood and adolescence,
My daily bread,
My forgiven trespasses.
Am I still forgiven?
Am I still fed?
I can’t remember what the prayer says
About those who have forgotten.
Chaplain’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in the essence of our beings,
To be alive is a frightening thing.
May your peace come to fullness inside of us.
May your wholeness be achieved
In our impermanence as it is in eternity.
Give us today your presence,
And remember for us when we have forgotten,
As we recall your name for those who can’t remember,
And lead us not into an illusion of separation,
But deliver us from anything but union.
Amen.
